Why didn't they do it? Life is on pause. Vladimir Spivakovsky, scientist, writer, businessman, president of the Grand Corporation

Summer is the time for entrance exams to universities, a time for serious tests - both in terms of having the knowledge to become a student, and in terms of the ability to “take a hit.” If we sum up both of the above components, we can say it more simply: summer is the time for exams on readiness for adult life

Many of the current applicants will soon become students, for which we sincerely congratulate them. But today I would like to talk with those who were unlucky, for the first time unlucky as adults - with those who did not pass the competition. Of course, the first misfire in your life hurts your pride and self-confidence, but this test must be passed first of all in order not to ruin your own life. There is no need to despair and consider entering a university as a question of a universal scale. It is necessary to analyze your mistakes and outline new ways to achieve your goal. It is for this reason that the article is addressed not only to applicants who did not pass the exams this year, but also to those who are just preparing for admission, as well as their parents.

Do no harm!

No, we are not talking about the postulate of future doctors - we are about the inner mood of failed applicants and their parents...

Nobody encourages young people to go to entrance exams in a depressed mood and prepare themselves for failure in advance. No, the attitude should be the most positive, if, of course, there are good reasons for it. But it’s worth keeping at the subconscious level the idea that the exam is a kind of lottery and different outcomes are possible! And even if you don’t succeed the first time, you will not become discouraged, you will not give up, but you will be able to correctly analyze the mistakes you have made in order to correct them.

In the context of what has been said, I would like to address the parents whose “little blood” failed at the entrance exams. The only help required from you is calm participation with complete non-interference. Refuse the stereotypes of twenty years ago - they are hopelessly outdated and do not correspond to modern realities. Judge for yourself: a couple of decades ago in our country the only employer was the state itself. Employment issues were strictly regulated, as a result of which penetration (note, not mastery of a specialty, but penetration) into many professions was achieved only through obtaining diplomas from strictly defined universities. This made admission to one or another higher educational institution fateful. Nowadays, many employers no longer attach such importance to the fact that a candidate has a diploma of one type or another from a specialized university. Look around: are there really no successful managers with teaching degrees or successful entrepreneurs who graduated from humanitarian universities among your friends? The employer today understands perfectly well that the required product is created by real people, and not diplomas, behind which there may be completely mediocre subjects. “The main thing is to get involved in the battle...” You should not consider what is stated below as a path to a dignified, but retreat. These are possible options for correcting the situation, which means moving forward.

There is no need to despair and consider entering a university as a matter of universal scale.

No one forbids a young person who has not been admitted to full-time full-time study to apply for... full-time full-time study at a university where exams are held later. If the substitution does not console the applicant, he should head for the evening or correspondence department of the same university where he entered as a full-time student. Those who received a “failure” on the exam will, of course, have to take the exams again, but those who did not get enough points can simply by transferring get into the same university, the same faculty, but to a different department. Here is a special conversation with parents... If your applicant clearly does not reach the passing grade, do not panic, fall into rage and despair and “break off the song mid-sentence” - they say, don’t go to the exam tomorrow, and it’s clear that you are going nowhere , stupid, you won’t do it. Defective position. Let your son fight to the end. Even if he doesn’t get to the “evening party” or the “correspondence course” with the points he gets, it’s never a sin to practice. Calmly wait until the end of the tests - there it will become clear whether the points you scored are enough, or you will have to take the exams again.

Many parents, when they hear the phrase “evening (and even more so, correspondence) department,” curl their lips in disgust. They are sure that they provide an “incomplete” education there. Deep misconception! Yes, the program there is more condensed, which does not mean that it is inferior - it is simply the quintessence of what is taught in the daytime. Moreover, by studying in the evening or part-time department, the student will be able to work in parallel in the chosen field, and accordingly, by the time of graduation, become not just a theoretician, but also a real practitioner. Psychologists have repeatedly emphasized the fact that it is extremely useful for home-based, “greenhouse” children, which a priori are the majority of applicants, to spend a year or two in the company of serious, working fellow students - to gain experience and recharge with vital energy. At the same time, no one is taking away your opportunity, after completing one or two courses of the evening (correspondence) department, to switch to the full-time department and crown the already solid foundation of practical knowledge with theoretical delights.

Paid branch

You should not discount such an option as a paid branch. They now exist in all universities. It is clear that in this case the whole question is the creditworthiness of the family. However, young people who are not eager to join the army from college should think about this possibility of obtaining a higher education. Fortunately, the system of educational loans is developing and strengthening every year.

It is extremely useful for domestic, “greenhouse” children to spend a year or two in the company of serious, working classmates

A solution to the problem may be to enroll in a paid department at another university. Of course, here the “newcomer” applicant will have a slightly more difficult time than the one who applied but did not enroll. You will have to undergo testing and an interview. However, this option is valuable in that, having made a fundamental decision to study for money, a young person will be able to choose a much more “renowned” university than the one to which the initial choice fell. Suppose an applicant enters a full-time budget place, therefore he chose a university with little competition and, as a result, a low passing score. Misfire... You'll have to pay. The cost of training is approximately the same. There is a direct reason to go to a university that provides better training. HR, which will hire a young specialist, does not care in which department - budgetary or paid - he studied. But the reputation of the university can play a certain role.

Education and profession at once!

Another option for realizing dreams of a cherished education is studying in college. It is no secret that now many universities have colleges in their structure, which provide initial professional training in the university profile. For example, the Moscow State University of Printing has the Printing College named after. first printer Ivan Fedorov, where future printing house workers learn the basics of the profession under the guidance of teachers from the “mother” university. That is, we are again talking about serious practical training, after which a young man can easily enter the second (or even third!) year of the university that once rejected him. Sometimes you can even save a year. To do this, however, you need to go to college not after your senior year, but after completing your nine-year course. In addition, college exams usually continue until the end of August. But remember that the deadlines for submitting documents and exams may vary in different educational institutions; you need to find out about this in advance.

And one last thing. Almost every Moscow university holds so-called Applicant Days. For example, at Moscow State University this event is held monthly. At Applicant Day, you can get information about preparatory courses, pre-university preparation, entrance and admission to a university or college (if the educational institution has one), ask all your questions to representatives of the information department or the admissions committee.

Varvara Dmitrieva

Hello everyone!

Now I will mercilessly reveal tricks that will help you get into a university (higher education institution), and even on a budget. Why do I have the right to write about this topic? Because (1) I have been working at this very university for more than 7 years, and (2) I have worked directly in the admissions committee more than once. Through this, I have accumulated many tricks on how to enter a university.

IN By the way, we have already revealed the secrets of getting through targeted admission on a budget. So read that article first. And now only tricks.

Trick one: in 2015, you can apply to five different universities in any three areas. Thus, an applicant can submit documents for 15 areas (specialties) of training. There are practically no specialties now. Therefore, the word “specialty” was replaced with the word “direction”. What opportunities does all this beauty open up? Amazing.

Suppose you have already chosen a university and a direction, a profession, and who you want to study for. Note how prestigious this university is in the city in which it is located. If it is outside the top three, and there are budget places there, remember: everyone who submitted an application with high scores will most likely not submit original certificates there. They will most likely take a risk and apply to more prestigious universities. Therefore, half of the candidates for a budget position can be safely eliminated.

That is, feel free to submit the original of your certificate if (1) the university is not one of the top three in the city.

How to determine whether a university is prestigious or not? Very simple. The most popular are universities. Next come academies and then institutes. So if you are entering the academy on a budget and have fairly high scores, then don’t fuss or take risks by submitting the original to the university. Apply to the academy: free higher education has never hurt anyone.

The second trick is how to enter a university: everyone strives to go to universities in the capital. That is, all the guys who scored 270 points on the Unified State Exam are heading to the capital. Be smarter and wiser. Why do you need a capital university? To pay 20,000 for a hostel, even if you're lucky enough to get by on a budget? Excuse me. The Unified State Exam system allows you to submit documents to any university in the country.

Choose Novosibirsk: there are decent scientific personnel there and the admission conditions are softer if you have a sufficient number of points. Remember, now many universities simply change their name to seem more prestigious. For example, recently some Kolomna Institute was renamed Moscow University or something like that. Missed it?

Trick three. If you have not passed the budget and your parents are not averse to financing your higher education, or maybe you yourself, then be vigilant! If they tell you that their education is almost free, only about 50,000 a year, they want to deceive you. The fact is that prices for education in all state universities are set by the state.

This year it set the minimum amount of tuition at universities at about 80,000 rubles per year. A university that offers you to study “almost free” probably simply has not passed licensing or accreditation. And probably cannot legally issue diplomas. To check all this, just ask the admissions committee a question: has your university passed licensing and accreditation?

It happens that not the entire university, but several areas have not been accredited, and then the faculty that has these areas does not have the right to issue diplomas until it is accredited again. Therefore, be careful and ask uncomfortable and unexpected questions directly to the admissions committee members when submitting documents.

Trick four, how to enter a university: all those who did not pass the budget in the capital will return to those universities where they passed based on their Unified State Exam scores. It even happened that an hour before the end of the deadline for submitting originals, a wild queue grew and the guys thought, where should they submit their documents? Where is better?

Trick number five, how to get into university: the answer to the question “Where is better”? Doesn't make sense at all. Better in what? If you compare universities that you got into based on budget scores, then compare them based on measurable indicators: image, fame, where exactly can you get a job after university, does this university have agreements on internships at enterprises? Will the university provide you with a normal dormitory at a normal price? (Yes, you will have to pay for the hostel too!). You can forget about the footage from the television series “Univer”: in life everything is a hundred times worse in terms of living conditions.

It is extremely important to ask about teaching practices. After all, it may turn out that the dean’s office will tell you: “Look for places to do internship yourself!” So you will have a mustache yourself. Think ahead and ask the same questions to the admissions committee when applying.

Now re-read the article again to fully understand these tricks on how to enter a university. Use them and don't forget to like!

Intensive program for entering a university on a budget

  • And much more!

Best regards, Andrey Puchkov

Your hopes were not justified, but there is no need to sound the alarm. The child did not become worse only because the passing grade was too tough for him. He will have plenty of opportunities to prove his professional suitability. Don’t look for someone to blame, calm down and realize that life goes on.

2. Support your child

The child is ashamed of you and scared of tomorrow. He may have faced defeat for the first time in his life and is confused. Don't escalate the situation. Show that you are ready to support him no matter what.

3. Find the positives

Look at it differently. Perhaps you avoided inevitable expulsion, the hassle of transferring to another university, or something worse.

In the United States, many schoolchildren deliberately skip a year after graduation. Young people try to spend this time - it's called the gap year - usefully: they work, travel, relax, help their parents, make acquaintances, and look for themselves. When it comes time to submit documents, they feel responsible, not forced. Your child will also grow up in a year and understand what he needs.

4. Look for alternatives

According to the rules Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia dated October 14, 2015 N 1147 (as amended on April 20, 2018) “On approval of the Procedure for admission to study in educational programs of higher education - bachelor’s programs, specialty programs, master’s programs” An applicant can submit documents and their copies to five educational institutions, each for three specialties. That is, you have as many as 15 attempts. If it doesn’t work out at one university, try your luck at another. If you don’t have enough points, choose an evening, part-time, part-time, or correspondence department.

5. Go to Plan B

Ask your child what he is going to do next. Most go to work, but there are other options.

Job or internship

In law “Labor Code of the Russian Federation” dated December 30, 2001 N 197-FZ (as amended on July 19, 2018) You can start your career at 16 years old. True, up to 18 years old with some restrictions. Yesterday's schoolchildren cannot engage in hard, harmful and dangerous work, work in the gambling business and nightlife establishments and more than 35 hours a week.

Without work experience, they are hired as couriers, laborers, advertisers, promoters, and in fast food restaurants. Ask your friends: perhaps someone needs an intern or a substitute during their vacation. You can also find a lot of offers on social networks.

Volunteer program

A safe and budget option to travel, see the world, gain experience and do a good deed. There are many programs available to schoolchildren: you can harvest crops, participate in archaeological excavations, help the sick or save animals.

The child will receive invaluable experience in exchange for his help. Many organizations provide free accommodation, food, and travel expenses. In some cases, you will only have to pay for the flight and visa. Sometimes it is necessary to cover organizational fees. If you don’t have money, place a request on Volunteer Forever - they will help you raise the necessary amount.

Here are sites that will help you find a volunteer program:

Army

Young men declared fit for military service must serve a year in the army. If the child does not intend to enroll in graduate school, then it is better to respond to the call right away. The Unified State Exam results are valid for four years, and you will not have to retake the exam next year.

In addition, those who have served are provided with benefits upon admission:

  • The right to attend preparatory courses free of charge.
  • Advantage for admission with equal scores with other applicants.

6. Prepare for admission next year

If the results of the Unified State Exam do not allow you to get into any desired university, you will have to spend a year preparing. This time you don't have to pay for tutors. The child can go to work and educate himself. Good opportunities for this

The enrollment campaign runs in Russian universities in August. For many, not being included in the list of students is a tragedy. In fact, it is even useful to break the classic “school-university-work” chain and try something new, psychologists note.

“Just think, you have a whole year when you are not pressured by a deadline, when you don’t have to urgently decide who you want to be: a doctor, a philologist or an engineer,” says psychologist Evgeniy Idzikovsky.

At the same time, no one is stopping you from suffering, hating and blaming everyone, getting depressed and reading Camus in the evenings, he adds.

In Europe and the USA, many graduates take a gap year - a break year. This is a time out to relax, find yourself and calmly decide what to do next.

You may realize that college is not the only path you want to take after high school.

Try different professions

Waiters, nannies, sales managers, photographers - many positions do not require a higher education diploma. The ideal option is to try yourself in your future profession. You can get a job at the company as an assistant, secretary or trainee. You'll have the benefit of seeing the inside of a working kitchen. You don't have to spend years studying a specialty that doesn't suit you.

“Unfortunately, most schoolchildren think little about their future profession. At best they idealize, at worst they don’t think at all: your parents paid for college, so you have to go. And a year after school can be an excellent training for adult life,” says AlgorithmAstar economics teacher Alevtina Ivanushchenko.

Many students understand what they want too late, when they have already spent 4-6 years in classrooms. Therefore, they often find their dream profession only at 30, or even 40 years old. To avoid disappointment, psychologists advise immediately “making lemonade out of lemons.”

When choosing a future job, you should rely not on the rankings of universities or professions, but on your personal interests. If you like video games, become a developer, test them or record streams. In any case, this is better than being a bad lawyer or economist.

In addition, work will give financial independence from parents. You can spend your salary at your discretion: enroll in courses, go on a trip, or save money to pay for university education.

Enroll in college or courses

In the United States, many people choose colleges and then get a prestigious job. In Russia, this type of education is undeservedly undervalued. Getting into college is easier than getting into a university. A diploma of secondary vocational education gives you the opportunity to immediately enter the second or even third year of university.

“What prevents you from enrolling in secondary vocational education in the same field? After it, you can get a higher education in a shorter period of time, while simultaneously starting to work in your specialty. The choice of such a direction of study should not be limited to your city,” advises the head of the Psyman Center, Ekaterina Leonova.

Another option is to take courses in your chosen specialty. They will not give an advantage when entering a university, but they will also take less time. Modern technologies offer a wide range of online courses, including those from the best foreign universities.

The courses are especially popular with representatives of creative professions - actors, artists, journalists or photographers. A talented student will definitely be noticed during classes, and it is quite possible that a higher education will not be needed.

Improve yourself

At school I had to study according to the program for 11 years. Therefore, a free year is a rare chance to gain skills for which there was not enough time between lessons and preparation for the Unified State Exam. Sculpting flowers, braiding hair, dancing, archery or driving a racing car - perhaps the hobby will become so addicting that it will become a future profession.

For the most resilient there is a unique quest - the army. Moreover, not only young people, but also girls can do military service. Women over 18 years of age with secondary education are allowed to serve under contract if they manage to pass a medical examination and exams.

Start a blog about how you spend your year

This will not only be a psychological relief, but will also help attract new subscribers, and, perhaps, find new ways of development.

“Perhaps they will donate a lot of money to you for a new masterpiece or offer to film a cruel and merciless Russian art house,” says Idzikowski.

Prepare for admission

If you haven't changed your mind, try again in a year. Firstly, there will not be such strong psychological pressure: you will go to university not under the compulsion of your parents and because “everyone is doing it,” but of your own free will.

“As soon as a former student understands that teachers no longer put pressure on him, that he has no responsibility to the school and teachers, but only responsibility to himself, it will be much easier to take this step, because he will need to do it for himself, and not for others,” notes psychologist of the portal “I am a parent” Ekaterina Safonova.

Secondly, nothing will distract from admission. You can devote all your free time to preparing for the Unified State Exam - hire tutors, take courses at a university, or study on your own. It is likely that the points will be enough to enroll in Russian universities free of charge.

Perhaps, after a year of break and gained experience, a desire to enter a foreign university will appear. A diploma from an American or European university will provide more prospects for a future career.

See the world

Traveling will help expand your horizons. Of course, not all graduates can afford to spend on vacation. There are many free programs, including for schoolchildren. Volunteers are not waiting for five-star hotels, but they can see new countries, learn or improve a foreign language, and make interesting acquaintances around the world.

For example, caring for children in Africa, studying medicine in Nepal or diving to the bottom of the Andaman Sea in Thailand to clear it of garbage is a real adventure. In addition, volunteer experience will be useful in the future when applying for a job.

The prospect of “losing a year” often seems tragic to graduates and their parents. However, in fact, entering a university immediately after school is not always the best option: not all schoolchildren by the time they graduate from 11th grade are able to make an informed choice about the trajectory of their development, and sitting at a desk and all-consuming preparation for the Unified State Exam does not provide an opportunity to properly get to know their future profession. As a result, many graduates who switch from school to university are ultimately disappointed in their own choice, and the percentage of expulsions in the first year in some technical universities can reach 30-40%.

If a graduate does not enter a university, he has the opportunity to “take a break”, better understand himself and his life aspirations, try himself in different fields and find out whether the chosen field of activity is suitable for him.

Change of university or form of study

If you did not get into the “dream university” on a budget, you can consider alternative options - sometimes in universities with a low rating that are not popular with applicants, there may be free budget places (by law, in this case, universities can “recruit” applicants before the start of their studies). year), and the cost of contract training can be quite affordable. An even more “economical” option for studying is full-time (evening) and correspondence departments, enrollment for which usually lasts longer than for full-time studies. If you don’t want to “lose a year,” studying even at a not-so-rated university may be a good option.

You can think of this as a kind of test drive of training in your chosen profile - you will have the opportunity to find out whether you really want and can study the necessary disciplines, and whether this profession attracts you. If the answer is positive, after a year you can again try to go on a budget to the university where you originally wanted to study. And it will be much easier to retake, for example, the Unified State Exam in Literature, having mastered a university course on introduction to literary studies.

Changing educational trajectory

You can get a vocational education in the field of interest to you at technical schools, lyceums and colleges - admission to them is carried out without exams, through a certificate competition, and the duration of study based on 11 classes is from two years (1 year 10 months). At the same time, the choice of specialties is huge, training is carried out in such popular areas as management, jurisprudence, social work, and so on. And this is the fastest way to the profession.

At the same time, having studied at a technical school, you can then continue your education in the same specialty (in some cases, in an accelerated program), change your field of study, combine study with work, and so on. Graduates of technical schools retain the right to receive higher education on a budgetary basis.

Device for permanent work

The best option is to try to find a starting, “low-level” position in the field in which you would like to work in the future. This allows you to “plunge” into the life of the industry, understand the “rules of the game”, and realize what you are striving for. However, even if the work has nothing to do with the profile in which you would like to study, in any case, this is a valuable experience of “adult life”, which contributes to growing up and developing independence, responsibility, the ability to establish relationships with people, plan your time, and so on .

What’s interesting is that all these qualities can later turn out to be a serious help in the learning process - and the very fact of work experience (in any field) will become a serious plus when finding employment in your specialty.

In order not to “fall out” of the learning process, you can combine work with studying at language courses, preparing for the Unified State Exam, self-education - just to keep your brain in good shape.

Professional courses

Short-term professional courses lasting several months are another option for obtaining an applied specialty. Moreover, they do not necessarily have to be paid - city employment centers usually offer a fairly large selection of free courses in different areas, upon completion of which a state diploma is issued (and a scholarship may even be paid during their completion). At the same time, school graduates without work experience are among the “beneficiaries” who are supposed to be sent to such courses out of turn.

In a year, you can get a specialty and work in your chosen field - and then have the opportunity not to ask your parents for pocket money, working part-time during the holidays or while studying.

Gap year

A practice that is quite common in many foreign countries, but is not yet particularly common in Russia - the “gap year”, during which yesterday’s schoolchildren “explore the world”: travel, studying the characteristics of different countries, volunteer, try themselves at temporary work in different directions . This “pause” becomes a way to broaden one’s horizons, grow up, gain experience of independence and gain knowledge about the world - after all, the experience of a person who constantly sits at a desk is quite limited. Moreover, gap year is not a sign of failure; it is sometimes taken by brilliant applicants who simply want to take a break from constant study and “refresh” their perception of the world.

Of course, this approach to a free year requires serious planning and parental support. However, even a short “vacation” can give you a lot of new impressions and be useful.

Options for young men of military age

For young men deemed fit for military service who are not enrolled in university, their options are narrowed. They can either try to “break through” to the full-time department of another university, or enroll in a technical school (deferment from the army is now provided for the entire duration of study).

However, sooner or later you will still have to serve - the law imposes more and more restrictions on draft dodgers, and the only essentially legal option to avoid conscription service is continuous study until the age of 28 (undergraduate - postgraduate studies). Therefore, many choose to serve in the army right now - especially since the conditions for serving have become much softer, and the terms have been reduced to one year. At the same time, the results of the Unified State Exam are valid for four years and you will not have to retake them - and you will be able to build your future life without taking into account the need to repay your debt to the Motherland.
